My Top 10 Directors

This post will be looking at my top 10 directors, my favourite films by them and why I love them as directors. picking my top 5 was easy for this list but the rest were difficult, I kept swapping directors round and adding new directors in. but I’ve finally figured out my top 10 so enjoy!

10. Kathryn Bigelow

Kathryn Bigelow is my favourite female director and has directed some great films such as Point Break, The Hurt Locker and Detroit. Point Break was the first film of hers that I saw and is still my favourite of hers although Hurt Locker is a close second. also she is the first and only woman to win a best directing Oscar (for The Hurt Locker) which was well deserved.

9. Guillermo Del Toro

Del Toro uses great visuals in his films especially in Pans Labyrinth, he’s also a great storyteller and his films are unique and always fun to watch. my favourite film of his is Hellboy, its been a favourite of mine since I was 8 or 9 and I still enjoy them today.

8. Wes Anderson

A recent favourite of mine, I only started really getting into his films just over a year ago after I watched Isle Of Dogs. I loved the style of the film and afterwards I started to watch as many Wes Anderson films as I could.

7. Alfred Hitchcock

The master of suspense. I’ve been a huge fan of Hitchcock since I studies his film Psycho in media class when I was 16. since then I’ve watched most of his films and my favourite is Rope. I love the way its shot and how much suspense was in it considering it took place inside a small flat.

6. David Fincher

Another director that I became a fan of within the past couple of years. the first film I watch of his was Fight Club and my favourite is Seven.

5. Christopher Nolan

The Batman trilogy were the films that made me a fan of Nolans and they are also my favourites of his. I always enjoy Nolans film they are always interesting to watch and have great casts.

4. The Coen Brothers

An amazing pair of filmmakers. the first film I watched of theirs, which is also my favourite of theirs, is Inside llewyn Davis. their films are so well done especially stylistically.  there are still a few of their films that I need to watch which I plan to do as soon as possible.

3. Steven Spielberg

Spielberg was my favourite director when I was a kid, I always loved his films and still do. The first film I remember seeing of his was ET and my favourite is Jurassic Park. he’s probably the director that I’ve been a fan of for the longest and I always look forward to watching his new films.

2. Quentin Tarantino

Of course Tarantino has to be on this list, I love the style of his films and the way he directs. the first film I saw of his was Pulp Fiction but my favourite is Reservoir Dogs which is in my top 10 films of all time. However he once said that he would only ever direct 10 films (the 9th of which comes out this year) which is kinda sad because I always love his films, I don’t think theirs a film of his that I don’t like.

1. Edgar Wright

Here is my favourite director of all time. His style and well just about everything is perfect. I’ve been a huge fan of Edgars for about 10years now ever since I watched Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, which is also my favourite film of his. Although I love all his films and have watched each one multiple times. Honestly if you’ve never seen any of Edgar Wrights films then why? go watch them! I always recommend his films to other people especially the cornetto trilogy. I’m so excited for his next release which they are currently filming now.
